Hello World
May 18, 2023: Supreme Court rules Andy Warhol violated a photographer’s copyright on image of Prince
You need to know this because: The court had previously ruled in Warhols favor in 2019 stating that “Warhol's use of the photograph was transformative because it created a new work of art with a different aesthetic purpose and character.”
The decision is important because it recognizes the value of photography as an art form. In the past, photography was often seen as a mere documentation of reality, and photographers were not given the same level of copyright protection as other artists. It also helps to change the perception and affirms the importance of photography as a creative medium. This means that photographers can now be more confident that they will be able to protect their work from being used without permission. and……..It clarifies their copyright protections and recognizes the value of their work as an art form!!!!!
